Will Zambia Regain The Status of NO.1 African Copper Producer
(Apr 27, 2017)
Anglo American said Monday it suffered metallurgical coal production losses at its mines in Queensland, Australia, in the last week of March, due to Cyclone Debbie.
Zambia has world-class copper resources, and its nearly 100-year history of mining can provide strong support to this conception.
"The impact on the rail network has been more material, and is still being assessed. It is expected that this will impact Q2 sales volumes," the statement said.
New smelting capacity for Zambia to make copper concentrate production reached 3.6 million tons, higher than the current 2.9 million tons.
Last month, Vedanta announced plans to invest another $ 1 billion in Zambia's branch. At the same time, Glencore and the First Quantum also expanded its operations to boost production.
"We hope to see the prosperity of the Zambian copper industry," Albanese said.
